From Joy…
I did my first cleanse in 2008 at Hacienda del Sol and it was a life-altering event. After completing the cleanse, I experienced more clarity and felt more vibrant than ever before. Giving my body a “break” from non-stop consumption and digestion allowed for a very deep healing and shift in my entire being. Menlha’s teaching, support and presence is absolutely magical. She is a true healer.
Yin & Yang Yoga
In ancient Chinese philosophy, yin & yang describe the opposites that exist in the world, such as light & dark or hot & cold. Yin cannot exist without yang and yang cannot exist without yin, they complement each other. Harmony and health are created when these contrasting aspects come into balance.
Yin is traditionally passive and introspective, and the perfect counter-balance to upbeat, energetic yang. So it is with yoga, that a yin style practice is slow and quiet with long-held passive poses, in sitting and lying positions. Relaxing and opening the body to more flexibility by allowing the body’s connective tissues to soften. By contrast, a yang flow is more active and dynamic, strengthening and invigorating the body and mind.
Yoga Nidra – Enter the Zero Stress Zone
The literal translation of Yoga Nidra is Yogic Sleep. It is an ancient form of meditation that will take you into the deepest levels of relaxation while still remaining fully aware. When practicing Yoga Nidra, your brainwaves drop into the alpha and theta state. As you progressively enter deeper and subtler brain waves you become more relaxed, integrated, expansive and present. Eventually, you completely shift out of identification with the body, mind and ego. In this deep state beyond ordinary waking consciousness, you naturally re-align with spirit, allowing you to effortlessly disengage from restrictive physical, mental and emotional patterning. Here, you are free to create a life that is an expression of higher
consciousness, rather than acquired conditioning.
Quen Koetter
Quen’s yogic journey has been evolving magically throughout the past 7 years, finding inspiration in array of different practices. She embarked with a weekly Hatha class, used as a tool for controlling the stress of her fast-paced television production job in London. Truly awakened by its profound effects on her emotional, spiritual and physical well-being, she quickly found a new, more conscious and balanced way of living. With a spirit of adventure and a passion for travel, she journeyed to India in 2005 in pursuit of a deeper practice, spending time studying the Sivananda tradition. In 2008 her path called her to the guidance of Don & Amba Stapleton at the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica, where she completed her 200-hr Interdisciplinary Teacher Training, 100-hr Pranassage Practitioner, 100-hr Inner Quest and subsequently their 500-hr Professional Certification.
In addition, Quen is an ITEC and MTI certified Holistic Massage Therapist and is grateful to currently find ‘home’ to be Nosara, Costa Rica, where she assists in the facilitation of yoga training’s, is a practicing yoga instructor, body worker and co-director of Inward Bound.
Menlha Bruneau
I have been interested in cleansing and health & super foods since my grandfather started me gathering and eating dandelion greens. This was much more appealing and interesting to me than eating the standard things offered, like meat and potatoes. So as the years went by, I tried many diets and accumulated much information about what is healthy and what is not. I found that I felt the best when eating a lot of green salads, drinking green drinks and not consuming too much. Adding cleansing to a good diet, 1-2 times a year was the key for clarity, rest and re-newel. What I offer in cleanses is a relaxed and supportive environment for your personalized cleanse with lots of information to continue a healthy life.
Retreat schedule:
~ Arrival late afternoon – Group begins with a raw food dinner at 6pm, an opening circle with an introduction of the participants and the cleanse.

~ 2nd – 6th days (5 days juicing) – mornings in silence, yoga, meditation, juices, colemas (2 a day), skin brushing, clay baths, information on cleansing your system, digestive system massage, yoga nidra

David was a student in the first Rebalancing course given by Menlha 1987-88 in Nelson, BC. Thereafter he assisted in the yearly six-month courses for the next five years and maintained a private practice in Rebalancing in Nelson. As well as helping with bodywork instruction he led the daily meditations that have become a core element of the Rebalancing program. Meditation and the exploration of our true nature have been a deep interest for most of David’s life and he has studied with numerous teachers and Masters in different parts of the world as well as consistently practicing since his early twenties. Also during the years in Nelson, David was drawn to the Feldenkrais work (Awareness Through Movement) as taught by Brian Lynn from Victoria and has integrated this approach to the body into his life. The Feldenkrais perspective is one of the foundations of Rebalancing and David shares his knowledge of it during the course.
Since the Rebalancing program moved to Costa Rica, David has been a teacher in seven courses, continuing to facilitate the meditation, Feldenkrais sessions, and to assist in teaching the bodywork. He considers Rebalancing to be part of his “life meditation” and spiritual journey.
Claire Sauve
Course Assistant
Claire has been practicing Rebalancing Bodywork for 4 years, and when joining our program she assists in the facilitation and to teach anatomy. She brings to Rebalancing a broad range of experiences including mathematics, education, science, music, art and healing. Expansively curious, she is continuously wondering and learning about the mysteries of life and the universe. Claire strives to build bridges between the various realms of healing and helping, a journey which has brought her most recently to Vancouver. As well as practicing Rebalancing bodywork, she is studying the Hakomi method of body-centered psychotherapy. Claire also works in the field of Physician Health, which has afforded her the opportunity to study and explore spirituality in healthcare and Non-Violent Communication.
During the courses that Claire joins us, she will be sharing her scientific and healing backgrounds as she integrates the anatomy lessons with the whole Rebalancing Bodywork course and way of being.
Brandy Dicks
Course Assistant
Brandy was called to study Rebalancing in 2003, being attracted to it’s unique process, creative possibilities, and variety of techniques. Having practiced Rebalancing since then to varying capacities, and assisting in the course in 2008, she is excited to once again immerse in this wonderful healing art. Outside of Rebalancing she practices dance and movement expression, writing, and communing with nature. She is also a crafting queen who is always inspired and creating.
Brandy is excited to be returning to the Kootenay School of Rebalancing as she is as inspired as ever with this unique healing modality. Brandy has much to share in the realms of heartfelt communication, grounded presence, and family constellation work. Integral to the course is how we live together in community and build self awareness and awareness of others, a continuous life practice to which Brandy is devoted.
