Brenton Rueger
Santosh Brenton Rueger is a man on a mission to Celebrate our diversity as a race, to preserve nature and life at all costs, to connect deeply with those on the path, and to share the power of the inquiry of Yoga. An avid, world traveling surfer of over two decades, Brenton is well aware of the interconnectedness of all beings and our connection to the earth.
While at home in Charleston, SC, Brenton is a Master Craftsmen and builder of environmentally conscious homes, working on various “progressive energy” home projects for over 17 years. He currently shares his love of Yoga at the studio, From Seed to Tree Yoga, that he shares with Johnny Stuhr. The name was coined from the yoga posture created by their loving teachers, Don and Amba Stapleton, of the Nosara Yoga Institute in Nosara, Costa Rica. Brenton and his best friend Johnny’s studio is nestled in the woods near Folly Beach, South Carolina. It stands as an example of harmony with nature. Breton calls their studio “a place where like minded people can get together, focus on simple things, sit in silence and/or talk about issues of importance to our community and the world in general. Encouraging and supporting, the studio, teachers and practitioners exemplify the strength of grassroots community while sharing our love of yoga and the ancient teachings of life. In a space that connects with nature. The ability to come together in this way is an Honor and a Privilege.”
Brenton also applies the discipline of yoga and hard work to the art of parenting and says, “being the father to the funnest and craziest 6 year old I know keeps a mirror on my actions at all times. I learn so much about myself through my daughter. Outside of having her on my back while I surf, Sophie and I OM together, practice asana, karma yoga, meditation, conscious eating and playing music…fully enrolled in the school of life together. Traveling together as much as possible. I want to facilitate and encourage her to be herself, to be young and make mistakes, to learn from these experiences, practice patience and mindfulness, and above all, to love unconditionally.”
In describing his teaching, Brenton states, “the main focus in my yoga classes is learning to love being right where you are – appreciating the strength you have, attuning the senses, breathing deeply, focusing the mind and taking time to listen to your heart. The heart is the center of our universe. My intention is to create a space where it is encouraged to explore your emotions, your specific likes and dislikes, and to use all of these feelings as fuel to ignite the fire of life. I encourage everyone to live every day to the fullest, from a space of accepting where you are, right now. Through creative asana flows with instruction, guided meditations, breathwork, inspiring musical arrangements, and fun, we ride the waves of prana and learn how to tap into our naturally existing pranic flow. With an emphasis on strength through breathing, the breath is the guiding force in our practice. The connection between humans and the ocean is a common sutra in all of my classes, and a sacred connection between us. In surfing as in yoga, it is between the waves where we find stillness, and it is in this stillness that the effects of the previous wave is absorbed. The more awareness and focus in the ride, no matter how rough, the more skill we inherently develop from simply getting back on the next one that comes our way…riding it with greater ease and grace.”
