Joy Burch
Joy Burch, MBA, E-RYT, Living Foods Educator
Joy was first introduced to yoga in 1993 while playing college tennis. She attended a weekly class at the recommendation of a teammate to help relax and focus, and will never forget the kindness and radiant energy of her first teacher, Skip Rector. After college, Joy moved to San Diego and began a more formal yoga practice in 2000. During her time in California, she worked as an account manager for Tony Robbins, traveling to his events throughout the US and Australia. Several years later, Joy became a sales & marketing consultant for Deepak Chopra and while at The Chopra Center for Well Being, began to study Ayurveda, Hatha Yoga and Primordial Sound Meditation. She also furthered her personal development and spiritual studies with Dr. David Simon, Jean Houston, Shakti Gwain, Debbie Ford, Dr. Roy Martina and Rama Birch, and did her first yoga training at The Yoga Room with Peri Ness in Encinitas, California.
After working on the business side of wellness for 5 years, Joy realized it was time to elevate her business competence. She moved to Glendale, Arizona to study and earn an MBA in International Business from Thunderbird School of Global Management. In 2005, after spending a year in New York City and realizing her true calling was beyond the urban jungle, Joy moved to the real jungle in Nosara, Costa Rica and began her 500 hour teacher’s path with Amba and Don Stapleton at the Nosara Yoga Institute, where she also worked for several years as a marketing and event manager.
In 2008, and after her mother had been in and out of cancer treatment for 3 years, Joy began to research alternative therapies and discovered juice fasting with Menlha Bruneau and Ann Wigmore’s healing protocol. Her current passion is to combine yoga with healing raw/living and “slow cooked” foods to create optimum health for those who either want more energy and “joie de vivre” or who are actually in a healing crisis. She is currently studying and completing the Educator’s Path at the Living Foods Institute.
Based predominantly out of Nosara, Joy teaches, leads retreats, is the co-owner of The Yoga House and is the owner and co-director of Inward Bound. Inward Bound is an extension of her love for introducing people to new places and ideas, deepening their yoga and meditation practice, contemplating wellness and balance, and connecting like-minded individuals. Joy’s teaching style is a fun, creative vinyasa flow that draws from a variety of disciplines with a deep affinity for yin and restorative poses. She is currently studying Anusara Yoga and Sura Flow, along with Zen meditation as taught by Adyashanti – and is a huge fan of Kundalini & Pre-Natal Kundalini Yoga! She happily shares her life with her beloved partner and new baby girl.
